Rice to Visit Giants on Monday

After being released by the Buccaneers on Thursday, DE Simeon Rice is drawing interest from a few teams. Most notably the Jets, Giants and Titans. There are conflicting reports about Rice’s release. Tampa Bay said Rice failed a physical because of his shoulder injury but Rice said he was released after not taking a pay cut. Rice does admit there are issues with his shoulder and told reporters that he needs at least three more weeks of physical therapy to strengthen his shoulder.

Rice will visit the Giants on Monday where he will likely have to pass a physical. There are reports that the Giants plan to discuss a contract with Rice if they are satisfied with his progress. With DE Michael Strahan a no show at camp while he is contemplating retirement the Giants could really use Rice. Rice and Strahan have had a rivalry dating back to 1998. They have talked trash about one another through the media. Both think they are better than the other while Strahan has the most sacks of any active player in the NFL and Rice is second. Strahan is likely to be upset when he learns of Rice’s visit with the Giants. This could do two things to Strahan, either he gets motivated by Rice’s visit and decides to show the Giants who the best DE in football is or he will feel betrayed and cease talks with the Giants.

Rice is 33 and this year will be his 12th season in the NFL. He has recorded 121 career sacks. Last season with Tampa Bay, Rice was hampered by shoulder injury that forced him to miss 8 games but he
still managed to record 2 sacks.
