With Camp Closing, Strahan’s Return Likely

Strahan

Despite the fact it appears that he will miss the entire preseason and all of training camp, the Giants are still banking on DE Michael Strahan being with the team come opening day in Dallas. The team will wrap up training camp today with a quick morning practice, and the general feeling is still that Strahan will be on the teams sideline Saturday night, in street clothes, as the team takes on the Jets in the annual NY vs NY preseason game.

“If and when he comes in, we’ll have to deal with that,” Tom Coughlin said yesterday. “To sit here and speculate on what he needs doesn’t make any sense to me. The longer he goes when he comes in, the decision will have to be made what it’s going to take to get him ready to go.” Strahan has played the Giants like a violin this offseason, looking for more money then playing the ever famous “retirement” card in order to have a chance to enjoy the month of August at home instead of with his teammates. Now with opening day less than three weeks away, talk of Strahan not playing in 2007 seems more and more unlikely, and just about everyone inside the team thinks he’ll be back.

“I wouldn’t be surprised,” linebacker Antonio Pierce said. “I don’t know if he’s going to be at the game playing. He might come and have some popcorn and sit on the sideline. My gut feeling is he’ll play this year. Fifteen years, you want to do a month of training camp? You guys have fun at training camp?”
