CB Underwood Gone for Season with Broken Jaw

The Giants have gotten some bad news as corner E.J. Underwood’s broken jaw suffered in Saturday’s game vs the Jets is bad enough to where he will miss the entire 2007 season.  It was the same game a season ago where Underwood suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the entire season.  “You explain it. I certainly can’t,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “We really wanted to take a long, hard look at him [Saturday] night, and before I knew it, he was gone.”

Underwood has been with the Giants the last two seasons as an undrafted free agent. He had looked good in camp to the point where the team was looking at options of keeping him around for the 2007 season as a part of the active roster.  Also hurt in the game was LB Kawika Mitchell (strained groin) who should be ready for the opener.  A couple of players that are getting MRI exams include tight end Rodney Burgess and cornerback Gerrick McPhearson.
