Giants News and Notes: Strahan Back, Injuires Still an Issue

Burress

* Michael Strahan’s summer drama should close today, as he is set to return to the Giants.  Strahan played the “I’m thinking of retiring” card all summer long, but it was no shock to anyone when he decided after the final preseason game to return to the team.  The drama played out heavy in the course of the media, complete with a letter to the fans telling them how he felt about the chance of walking away before the 2007 season.  Bottom line is the money is still enough motivation for Strahan, who while he didn’t create any enemies while he was gone, didn’t exactly come across as sincere in stating he wouldn’t be back in 07.

* The injury front continues to be a MAJOR issue for the team as week one is now just six days away.  It will read like a M*A*S*H unit when the injury report comes out on Wednesday, and look for a lot of players to be less than 100 percent when the kickoff takes place on Sunday.  A couple of players will be back at practice tomrrow, including WR Plaxico Burress, LB Kawika Mitchell, and TE Jeremy Shockey.  The only starter that won’t, unless a miracle happens, be on the field Sunday is CB Sam Madison, who is still a few weeks away from coming back off a pulled hammy.  As for Burress, who has been out with a couple of different injuries – “I haven’t felt as good as I do now for the last four or five months.”

* The teams continued look at kickers continue, and a league source says that recently released kicker Dave Rayner could take some swings of his leg today with the Giants.  Rayner was cut by the Packers over the weekend.
