Ward to Get Bulk of the Carries for the Giants Sunday

Running back Derrick Ward showed enough on Sunday night in Dallas where head coach Tom Coughlin has already gone ahead and named him the starting running back for Sunday afternoon’s home opener vs the Green Bay Packers. The 4th-year vet last week vs the Cowboys took over for starter Brandon Jacobs, who left the game with a MCL sprian in his right knee, and rushed for a career high 89 yards on 13 carries. Ruben Droughns, who the Giants grabbed for WR Tim Carter in a trade with the Browns in the offseason, will possibly spell Ward and maybe get a few carries himself. Ward has only 48 carries for 212 yards. “Whatever they need me to do,” Ward said, “I’m ready for it. I’m just going to be myself, and hope that’s good enough.”
