Jacobs hopes to return against Jets

Brandon Jacobs, New York Giants running backAlthough Giants running back Brandon Jacobs returned to the practice field this week, he will not play against the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend.  His replacement, Derrick Ward, returned to practice on Thursday but was unable to practice on Friday due to his sprained ankle remaining sore.

That would seem to suggest that the RB situation is in a state of flux, but according to Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, “I think it is better than that.”  Hopefully that is the case; even though Jacobs is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, Jacobs stated he isn’t going to return, adding, “They want to make sure things are right, which I don’t blame ’em.   I’m not holding that against them because they’re holding me out this week. It’s just me itching to play.  It’s just being safe; it’s a long season.”

Ward has rushed for 273 yards so far this season (5.1 yards/rushing attempt) and is ex-pected to make his third consecutive start.  Expect the running back situation to get real interesting starting Monday of next week, as there is the possibility of Jacobs returning to his starting role against the New York Jets one week from this Sunday.
