New York Giants placekicker Lawrence Tynes missed a field goal against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. No big deal to the vast majority of us, right? Try telling that to head coach Tom Coughlin. Apparently, he was unhappy with Tynes’ performance against the Dolphins as he missed a 29-yard FG which went wide left.
Tynes (12 of 15 on FGs and 20 of 22 on extra points) made his other two kicks from 20 and 41 yards in the first half, but Coughlin didn’t disguise his unhappiness over the missed FG, which went wide left. Apparently the weather had nothing to do with the missed FG. According to Coughlin as told to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, “It would have been 16-3 at that time. I thought that margin would have given us a huge advantage.”
Tynes’ missed FG, in addition to going wide left, apparently had no real distance to it either. After the kick, Tynes was looking at the ground and appeared to be repairing a divot. But at the same time, according to replays, Tynes didn’t appear to have lost his footing on the missed FG, either. When asked if the soggy field had anything to do with the missed attempt, Coughlin replied, “I don’t know. Lawrence felt comfortable about his shoes. He continuously said, ‘I have the right shoes on.’”
