Kiwanuka placed on IR, RB Pass signed

Hopefully, the placing of New York Giants linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka on the injured reserve list Tuesday will not adversely affect their resurgent defense. Kiwanuka suffered this season-ending injury when on the second play of last Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, teammate Osi Umenyiora fell on him while pursuing Detroit running back Kevin Jones. Reggie Torbor, then as he will for the rest of the season, replaced Kiwanuka.
To fill Kiwanuka’s roster spot, the Giants signed former Patriots RB Patrick Pass. Pass had played in 78 regular season games with New England, including 11 starts. He also played in all 9 postseason games with the Patriots in 2001, 2003 and 2004. In 2006, Pass played in 3 games before being placed on the IR with a hamstring injury. He was in training camp with the Houston Texans this summer, but was released on August 28.
