Four More Years: Coughlin on the Verge of Extension

Coughlin

One year ago at this time the talk of the Big Apple was not was if Giants coach Tom Coughlin would be fired in 2008…it was WHEN would he be fired during the 2007 season.  Now who has the last laugh?  Coughlin, fresh off leading the Giants to their third Super Bowl title, is in line for a contract extension, an extension that could be done as early as this week according to Bob Glauber of Newsday.

Glauber is reporting that Coughlin’s agents and the Giants are on the verge of wrapping up an extension that would add four more seasons on to Coughlins contract that would keep him in New York until 2011.  The money involved in the deal would pay Coughlin about $5 mil per season.  Right now Coughlin has one-year remaining on his deal.

Just goes to show you in this league you never can tell.  Ask people last season to name two coaches that would have been the favorites to be fired during the 07 season, and most would have named Coughlin and Browns head coach Romeo Crennel, who led his team to a 10-6 record and a tiebreaker away from an AFC playoff birth.  Now both men are laughing last at those that predicted their demise
