Could Droughns’ 08 Roster Spot be in Danger?

Droughns

The following from Sporting News about Reuben Droughns’ job this summer on the Giants roster does not really shock me:

“With Derrick Ward returning from a broken leg and Ahmad Bradshaw expected to fill a larger role in his second season, Giants RB Reuben Droughns will be hard-pressed to find many meaningful carries. He may be asked to carry the load again in short-yardage situations and if he is not impressive in the summer, or if youngster Danny Ware shows enough to impress the coaching staff, Droughns could find himself on the outside looking in when it comes to determining the final roster.”

While Droughns is a hard worker and was a solid player last year for the champs, the bottom line is the team has to start thinking about the future, and there was a reason that Droughns was available from the Browns last offseason.  If Droughns does make the final roster, it’ll be by the skin of his teeth, and he’ll have to fight for playing time in 2008.
