Failure to Communicate

Cool Hand Luke

Remember the old movie, Cool Hand Luke? In it, prison boss, Strother Martin, asks new prisoner, Luke — played by Paul Newman — a question and gets a “smart” remark in response. He then whacks Luke across the face, sending him tumbling down an embankment, at which point Strother Martin says, “What we have here is, failure to communicate!” Well, apparently, I have that very same problem.

The response to, A Freakin’ Fluke My Ass!, was amazing and most agreed that Trey Wingo is not quite the genius he thinks he is and the Cowboys are over-hyped and the Giants haven’t been given the credit they deserve for an outstanding 2007 season. But one responder seemed to think I had an inferiority complex and was apologizing for the Giants by saying they don’t have an All Pro Player roster. Obviously, I failed to communicate with this person.

My point was, in 2007, the Giants didn’t have a roster loaded with players VOTED TO THE PRO BOWL while Trey Wingo’s favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys did. That doesn’t mean, I think the Cowboys deserved to have thirteen players voted to The Pro Bowl while the Giants had only one. I think a lot of Dallas players — and the Cowboys as a team — are over-hyped. Roy Williams is an excellent example. I was simply stating a verifiable fact. An unfair fact? Yes, but a fact nonetheless.

It doesn’t mean I’m apologizing for the Giants or that I personally agree with the voting. I don’t. I’ll take Eli over Romo any day, our ‘O’ line over their ‘O’ line, our ‘D’ line over their ‘D’ line, our running backs over their running backs, our front-office over their front-office, our GM over their GM and our coaching staff over their coaching staff. In short, Dallas doesn’t have anything I want — except, maybe some strip clubs and topless joints over in Arlington or Garland. Am I communicating now, sir?
