Pro Bowl DE Umenyiora Injures Knee in Contest with Jets

Injuries have been an issue all preseason for the Giants, and tonight vs the Jets in preseason game number three it reared its ugly head again.  Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora was carted off the field in the second quarter of the annual preseason game against the Jets after his left knee “locked up.”

Osi had X-rays, and they were negative, but coach Tom Coughlin said that their would be an MRI on the knee on Sunday, and that there will be further examinations on the knee to see about the extent of the damage.  Leaving the field Umenyiora could not put any weight at all on the leg, not a good sign whatsoever.

Umenyiora started all 16 games last season and had 52 tackles and a team-high 13 sacks in earning his second Pro Bowl appearance. He added seven tackles in the Giants’ run to the Super Bowl.
