Defense Dominates as Giants Pound Rams 41-13

While the Rams made it interesting for awhile, there is no doubting that the start of the 2008 Giants season has started a lot better than 2007. Scoring 28 points in the second half, the G-Men laid waste to the awful Rams, topping them 41-13 at the Edward Jones Dome to start the 08 season at 2-0. Remember it was just last year they were beaten bad in games one and two to begin the season 0-2.

Justin Tuck gets a game ball, as he was all over Rams QB Marc Bulger all day. He sealed the win with a 41-yard return of a pick for a score in the fourth quarter, and also had two sacks which led the defense that ended the day with six sacks to go along with holding the Rams to just 201 total yards of offense.

The Giants went up 10-0 in the second quarter after they scored on a TD from Eli Manning to Plaxico Burress and got a field goal from John Carney. The sub Giants kicker then kicked a 33-yard field goal with :02 left in the half to push the lead out to 13-6. Manning hit Amani Toomer with a 10-yard TD to make it 20-6 in the third quarter, but the Rams came back as Bulger hit Torry Holt from 45 yards to make it 20-13.

New York then iced it, as Ahmad Bradshaw started the 21-point fourth quarter onslaught with an 18-yard TD, and after Tucks pick 6 for a score, Bradshaw then scored from 31 yards out to finish the scoring with 3:23 left. Bradshaw ran for 52 yards on just five carries, while feature runner Brandon Jacobs went off for 93 yards on 15 carries.

Manning was good again, going 20-for-29 for 260 yards and three TD’s, and no picks. He seemed poised all day, and was confident in the pocket and picked apart the Rams secondary all day. The Giants also outgained the Rams 441-201, and had 25 first downs to just 13 for the Rams.

Easy win, but no matter, it’s a win, and the Giants will take it and get ready for another lackluster opponent as they host the 0-2 Bengals.
