Bloomberg.com reports Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been charged with two criminal counts of second-degree handgun possession. The charges could reportedly bring Burress a minimum of three-and-a-half years in jail. The charges stem from an incident in which the 31-year-old Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub Friday night.

Sources say after the incident, Burress took the gun from the nightclub. He also spent about an hour and a half calling around to find a hospital that would treat him discreetly. Burress eventually went to New York-Cornell Hospital, where he checked in using a bogus name claiming he’d been shot an at Applebee’s restaurant. Burress surrendered to New York police on Monday morning, and spent five hours being processed on the charges.
