Can the G-Men Keep Both Jacobs and Ward?

From: NY Daily News

With Brandon Jacobs likely to command a long-term extension this offseason worth at least $7 million per season, the Giants might not have much left to match what Derrick Ward will find on the open market. “He deserves it,” Jacobs said. “It’s going to be tough, as an organization, to make a decision on us. It’s going to be tough to part, if that’s what we have to do. I love him like a brother and I wish we could still be around each other next season.” … Jacobs, who is earning $927,000, this season will surely be in that range.

Ward, who is earning $650,000, won’t be as expensive, but still could be worth $4 million-$5 million per season. Could the Giants really afford to commit $10 million-$15 million per year and $30 million-plus in guaranteed money to two running backs? Could they afford not to? “Weirder things have happened,” Jacobs said. “I hope so, to be honest with you. I really hope so. But I have no idea.”
