Union Might Hurt Plax

From NY Post:

The job of a union is to protect the rights of its membership, but one has to wonder if perhaps Plaxico Burress should be attempting to stop the NFL Players Association from going after the Giants. At this point, he needs all the friends he can get.

Burress must confront extreme legal issues in relation to the illegal gun charge he’s facing and might be looking at jail time. He has a long way to go before convincing the Giants he’s worth keeping around as a player, and trying to squeeze lost wages from his employer might not be the best way to go about getting back into the team’s good graces of the Giants.

The NFLPA, though, recently filed a second grievance on the behalf of Burress, trying to recoup millions on his contract and future earnings that he’s likely to lose after he accidentally shot himself in the thigh with his illegal handgun on Nov. 29. The Giants put Burress on the non-football injury list and suspended him for the final four games of the regular season.

The first grievance, filed in December, challenged the one-game suspension and two-week fine the Giants leveled against Burress after he missed a team meeting in September and refused to return phone calls from the team. In that instance, the team and the union eventually reached a compromise and Burress lost one game check ($205,882) instead of two.
