Giants Won’t Get a First-Round Pick for Shockey

The Giants will not be getting a first round pick for TE Jeremy Shockey. Here is the report as it’s stated on ProFootballTalk.com:

One of the practical consequences of the blurb posted earlier tonight regarding the Saints’ intention not to re-sign linebacker Jonathan Vilma until he hits the market next Friday morning is that, because the Jets won’t get the Saints’ second-round pick as part of the trade that sent Vilma to New Orleans, the Giants won’t get the Saints’ first-rounder.

The Saints had sent their second-round pick to the Giants for tight end Jeremy Shockey. Since the second-round pick conditionally had been promised to the Jets if Vilma participated in 85 percent of the defensive snaps and re-signed with the Saints, the Giants’ compensation for Shockey would have bumped up a level.

The fact that the Giants got a second-round pick for a guy they really didn’t want tells us all we need to know about their ongoing effort to persuade the rest of the league that they want receiver Plaxico Burress.
