Darrius Heyward Bey? Yikes!

It’s now being repoted by Ralph Vacchiano first, and now ESPN too that the Giants are not only targeting Darrius Heyward Bey, but that they are planning on moving up for him.

To which I say…

HUH?

I don’t get it.

We dont’ want to give up our first and a third for Braylon Edwards, but we might for Darrius Heyward Bey?

That’s questionable, I think.

I’m not sure this will actually happen.

Hopefully it is nothing more than some more smoke screen.

But IF it is true, I trust Jerry Reese.

And despite my contentions about drafting Heyward Bay over Britt (OR best player available)

there are some advantages to Heyward Bey over Edwards even.

First: Financial cost.

Heyward Bey can not cost as much as Braylon Edwards (maybe in draft picks) but not in financial committment.

Edwards wants a contract of at least 10 million dollars a year.

That’s a lot of money for a team that has rougly 5 million dollars of reported cap space right now.

Second Game Breaker

Heyward Bey runs a electronically timed 4.30 at the combine (even though it is widely speculated that the numbers reported were higher than the actual 40 times run)

and has been clocked, at Maryland, in the LOW 4.2s.

IF Heyward Bey can learn to be a reciever, he could be very, very good.

He also has nearly a 2 inch vertical better than Jeremey Maclin who is supposed to be extremely athletic.

He also was in the top 10 in both bench press reps as well as the 3 cone drill.

He could also bust.

He’s crazy fast and athletic for sure though.

Lastly No Weapons on Maryland

I’m a production guy, and Heyward Bey lacked production, BUT he did play at Maryland, who does not have another RB, WR, OT, or QB who will be drafted perhaps at all and certainley not in the first three rounds of the draft.

That speaks volume to the talent he was surrounded by maybe Reese sees something on the tapes that we can’t see.

Maybe He’s a better route runner then reported, maybe he’s a gamer.

Maybe he’ll be ELITE.

We’ll see.

I’m not buying yet that the Giants who are clinging to their picks are going to give a team the package it would cost to get Braylon Edwards in exchange to draft another WR.

It makes little sense to me logically.

Not all workout warriors are bust, Anotnio Cormarte and Dominque Rodgers Cromartie are two workout warriors who have been very good thus far, but Troy Williamson is a WR who was a big bust as a workout warrior.

But again, like I’ve said a few times before.

Trust Jerry Reese.

He’s been very good so far, and until proven otherwise. He’s right.

Fell free to puruse the site.

This guy has the potential to be Troy Williamson 2.0. If we were going to move up there are certainly other players I would target. I’d rather sit back and see who falls in terms of getting a WR.
