Possible 2nd Day Targets

well the first round of the draft is over, and I’m very excited.

I was a little reluctant about Hakeem Nicks, but I’ve been doing a lot of research and checking various sites and videos of Nicks and I’ve been swayed.

I liked Nicks, but I liked Britt more.

Here’s the stat to me: for all the talk about how he is an underneath kind of guy Hakeem Nicks averaged 18 yards per catch this season. As well as 16 yards per catch in his freshman season. That’s impressive. That’s big play ability.

He also had more than one productive year and has Great hands which you can see on youtube or get from the reports that he didn’t miss anything from his proday.

I loved the Sintim and Beatty picks, to be honest I would have been okay (not over joyed) with either pick had we reached for them in the 1st round, so to get them in the 2nd round was great value.

Veteran WR?

I wonder if the Giants will make a move for a veteran wr. That does not have to mean big time WR.

Maybe a player like Harrison can come in and show all these youngers how to run routes. But as far as the draft goes…

ILB

The Giants could still use another inside linebacker to eventually replace Pierce. I don’t know if Goff of Kehl is the guy to take over the MIKE position.

A guy I like a lot is Scott Mckillop out of Pittsburgh:
137 total tackles, 17.5 TFL, four sacks and four passes broken up.

Great numbers.

WR/KR

IF Hixon remanins #1, and nicks, Smith, and Manningham battle out for number two then the Giants need a return man. I think if they can find a return man who also plays CB that’s better, but if he plays WR or RB that’s okay too.

Mike Wallace Ole Miss

Wallace is a blazer.

4.33 seconds (with a 40 inch vertical jump) in the 40 and stands at 6 feet tall. Wallace can give the Giants the speed they wanted at the WR position without spending a 1st round pick on him (Heyward Bey)

Wallace also has experience returning kicks and could do that with the Giants.

Another player could be Johnny Knox out of Albeine Christian.

Another blazer who might be best suited to return kicks. 4.34 40 time.

I think a player like this should be on the Giants radar.

Secondary Depth

I’d be amazed if Rashard Jennigns fall to them at the end of the 3rd round, but maybe a player like Clemson Chris Clemons will be available in the fourth or fifth round which would be pretty good value. Clemons is super fast and played in a competitve conference.

Emanuel Cook is another good option.

As much as I root for Michael Johnson the fact of the matter is that Johnson is not an elite Safety. 72 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INT is okay numbers.

More depth could be used either way I think only Johnson, Philips and recent addition C.C. Brown are at the safety position.

As for Cornerbacks I heard the Giants like Asher Allen out of Georgia and I think there isn’t much chance that’s true.

The Giants like Tall Athletic Cornerbacks and Allen is not tall. (ross, webster, and Thomas are all 6 tall)

I think an interesting option is CB Morgan Trent out of Michigan.

Or a guy in their back yard at Rutger Jason McCourtey who is listed at 6′ and ran a 4.30 40 at the Rutgers pro day (is there any chance he makes it past the Raiders in the third round)

Better yet McCroutney was also productive.

Running Backs

I like Bradshaw and Ware as potential #2 backs, but it scares me if Jacobs gets hurt and they are the #1 backs.

I think a guy like Cedric Peerman in the third round is intersting.

Peerman is a pretty explosive runner, but if the Giants like Bradshaw and Ware, Peerman could be a nice receiver out of the backfield, which isn’t a huge strong suit of any of the three current running backs (especially Jacobs). Peerman caught over 40 balls last year for Virginia.

Rashard Jennings is extremely interesting player, but I doubt he makes it much further in round three.

I also like Javon Ringer from Michigan State who was very productive in college.

More OL Depth

I just have this terrible feeling…the Giants have been lucky three years running with no injuries to their OL. That can’t happen forever.

I would love to see the Giants get a guy like Shipley from Penn State in the early fifth round. Shipley is smart (Penn State for one, a 40 on his wonderlic for another) and talented, but lacks ideal size (especially in arm length), but he could be the future replacement for Shaun O’hara and can play any of the three interior OL positions.

Duke Robinson would be enticing too if he continued to fall (doubt he makes it much further)

Another WR?

I know Gmen fans love Ramses Barden, but we have talented young WR and like I said I think we’ll add a return man so this won’t matter.

A Pass Catching Tight End

I, Jesse Bartolis, Heart James Casey.

If James Casey ended up with the Giants in the third round that would be amazing.

It’s possible as well.

Casey is a Chris Cooley type player who can play multiple positions (also can throw-played baseball as well as some Quarterback) and is a great Receiver. Not a good or maybe not even an average blocker, but the Giants wouldn’t need him to block, just catch.

Corneilus Ingram is another player.

He’s a super athletic TE with durability/injury concerns.

Third round flier? Sign me up.

Kicker/Punter

IF the Giants keep the rest of their draft picks I would have no problem with drafting a Kicker Or a Punter.

I don’t trust Tynes completely and Feagles is a million years old.

I like some of the Kickers this year, but only if the Giants keep the rest of their picks, if they package to move up (or grab a veteran player from another team) then this becomes less of a good option.

Graham Geno is an effective and accurate Kicker.

Louie Sakoda intrigues me as well because he is a great kicker as well as a pretty good punter.

So there you have it some possible Giants options for the rest of tommorros’ draft, regardless of what happens tommorrow I think it has been a success so far.
