Rhett Bomar Scouting Report

Here is the scouting report on Rhett Bomar from draftcountdown.com:

Strengths:
Good bulk with a solid build…Has a very strong arm…Great mechanics and throws a nice ball…Good athleticism and mobility…Can throw on the run…Good touch and timing…Tosses a nice deep ball…Cool under pressure…Tough and super competitive…Supremely confident…Solid on-field leader…Productive…Is still improving and has a  lot of upside.

Weaknesses:
Height is just average…Does not have a lot of experience against top competition…Needs to work on his accuracy…Will take chances and throw some interceptions…Has a little too much faith in his arm at times…Can come off as cocky…Durability may be an issue…Has run into some trouble off the field so character and judgment is  a concern.

Notes:
Was the #1 quarterback recruit in the country coming out of high school…Signed with Oklahoma and redshirted in 2004…Took over the starting job as a redshirt freshman and had a very promising first season, setting the Sooners record for passing yards by a freshman and being named the MVP of the Holiday Bowl…Twice cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol (’05 & ’06) and was sentenced to six months of probation…Was dismissed from the football team just prior to the 2006 season after an investigation uncovered that he broke NCAA rules by accepting payment for what was essentially a no-show job at a local car dealership…Sat out the entire 2006 season after transferring to Sam Houston St…Tore the ACL in his left knee in November of 2007…Became the all-time passing leader in Sam Houston history and threw for more than 300 yards nine times during his Bearkat career…Has the physical tools to be a starting quarterback in the NFL but intangibles are still a question mark…You can’t help but wonder what kind of college career he might have had and how highly rated of pro prospect he would be today had things not gone sour at Oklahoma … Definitely a big-time talent despite his small school roots
