Giants’ Ware: I Can Replace Derrick Ward

From Profootballtalk.com

In the wake of the New York Giants selecting North Carolina State running back Andre Brown in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, veteran Giants back Danny Ware might eventually see his playing time affected.

And Ware blogged about that possibility while proclaiming that he feels he’s more than capable of filling the void created when Derrick Ward left the Giants in free agency.

“We used a 4th round pick to take a running back, naturally, guys are going to worry about their jobs and some guys will be on edge,” Ware wrote. “It doesn’t put a scare into me because I know I go out there and work hard every day. It’s going to be a while before he can get carries. He has to learn the offense and it will take him a little while, but I heard he’s pretty good.

“Listen, this is a business. But I’ll help the guy out because we’re here to win and we’re a team. But I’m also competing with him. I feel like I can replace Derrick Ward all day every day, they don’t have to bring someone else to get those carries. So, it’s kind of hard knowing that they used a fourth-round pick on a back and they’re probably going to have to give him some playing time. … All I can say to you fans is keep an eye on me. I’m coming.”

Meanwhile, Ware said he doesn’t want to be called “Wind” if he replaces Ward in the “Earth, Wind & Fire” backfield, saying he wants to be known as “Water.”

Here’s his explanation:

“H2O is one of the most important resources known to man. I transform whenever my environment changes. When it’s hot, I’m in my liquid form and can move through any boundary. When it’s cold I freeze and turn to ice.

“And once I get rolling, nothing can stop me. If it ever gets too hot, I evaporate, and it’s like I’m running on the clouds. But I never disappear because when it rains, it pours! That’s who I am. Water.”
