I really, really like what Jerry Reese and the Giants have done this off-season. I was a HUGE Braylon Edwards supporter, but now that that didn’t happen I’m over it.
The thing I like about the Giants is that they are a relatively young team are super talented and should be able to compete for the foreseeable future.
Surfing the internet I stopped over to one of my favorite mock draft sites: Walterfootball.com and I noticed a posting about expected Free agents after this season.
Here are the players the Giants may lose to free agency this upcoming off-season (I know it’s way, way in advance) but here they are according to walterfootball.com
Jeff Feagles
Kevin Dockery
C.C. Brown
Chase Blackbrun
Danny Clark
Barry Coefield
Fred Robbins
Dave Tollefson
Kevin Boothe
Guy Whimper
Michael Matthews
Sinorice Moss
Dominik Hixon
Danny Ware
David Carr
Eli Manning
As you can see the Giants dont’ really stand to lose much, assuming of course that Eli Manning will be resigned (which he will).
All the Giants might lose is depth along their Defensive line with Coefield and Robbins (Robbins will be 33 next year) and wide receivers Hixon and Moss, and a 4th CB in Kevin Dockery. That’s the MOST they could lose, which just goes to show you how well the Giants are built for the future.
Whatever happens with this on paper talented team this year, the Giants will have a very similar look again next year. They are set up for awhile.
Now, Eli Manning’s contract, I hope will be not burdensome on the cap, but I’m sure it will be substantial. And we hope that Alford can replace Robbins and perhaps they sign Coefield, and hopefully Hixon is a #1 WR talent by the end of this year (Wouldnt’ that be great?) so maybe that will be a big potential loss, but I think most likely he won’ t be.
When you look at the roster set up: The Giants have a legetimate chance of competing at a very high level this season and should be set for a very long time which futher undrlines a reason why Jerry Reese may not have been so willing to mortgage their future for a stud WR.
That’s all I have for today, feel free to puruse the web site and check out what’s going on.
I didn’t want to get too detailed with the breakdown this early, I just hoped to appease some people still holding on hope for Edwards/Boldin.
Have a nice day, everyone.
Guys I’d like to hang onto would be Dockery, Blackburn, Cofield, Whimper, Hixon, and Carr. Keep the young depth if they’re cheap. Everyone else is either too old or too redundant. Of course anything can happen in the next 9 months.
yea well we know cofield aint ganna be cheap i can tell you that much hes a solid defensive tackle which is a rare comodity hixon if he has a good season may want money and dockery blackburn whimper should be resignable. Carr depends on if any team wants to sign him, if theres a team out there desperate for a qb he may be hard to resign
Thanks for the responses guys.
Jhambrg.
I think I’m on board with Coefield, Whimper, and Hixon.
I think Blackburn and Dockery are replaceable and I think Dockery will get a b better offer than we should be willing to give, but to us, he’s only a fourth string Cornerback and we probably already have his replacement with Stoney Woodson or DeAndre Wright.
Blackburn is all right, but we also are already carrying a ton of linebackers.
I 100 percent agree on David Carr, he’s an excellent backup-a guy with a ton of pure talent now on a good team who doesn’t have all the pressure and expectations-He might move out of our price range too thoguh.
Jesse Cassel
I agree.
Although in the end I think ALL The players are expendable next year.
I think Hixon-espececially if he does well this year will be the one they want to keep.
Blackburn and Whimper are backups and are easily resignable.
We’ll see. There’s plenty of time!
