Report: Robbins No Guarantee To Be Ready By Training Camp

This from Pro Football Weekly:

Head coach Tom Coughlin said he “offered no guarantee” that DT Fred Robbins, who had microfracture surgery this offseason, would be ready by the time training camp rolls around. That said, Coughlin indicated that Robbins has made good progress, has worked hard and is ahead of schedule — he just didn’t say what that schedule was. We now know why the Giants spent so heavily at defensive tackle in the offseason, signing Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard. Robbins’ microfracture surgery and Barry Cofield’s knee scope have left the team without its two 2008 starting tackles, and it’s possible that Canty and Bernard could replace them this season as the first-team options. Robbins had a strong start to last season but tailed off badly as the season went on, with some serious injuries. The knee injury, which required the microfracture, was suffered in the playoff loss to the Eagles.
