Sunday Thoughts And Musings

Greetings from somewhere over the US. I’m flying back to New York after spending a weekend in Milwaukee. Great city, saw two Brewers games. But, we’re here to talk football so here are my Peter King style 10 things I think:

1. I think Chris Snee is criminally under rated. He has to be one of the top 3 guards in the league, yet only got his 1st Pro Bowl nod a year ago. Big things from him this year.

2. I think that Michael Vick will never wear Giants blue. He has talent, but after Plax, there isn’t going to be as many character risks taken.

3. I think this is a big year for Antonio Pierce. The emotional leader’s play tailed off towards the end of the year. He is so important to this team, because of his ability to call the defensive adjustments. He’s smart, too. If his play continues to spiral downwards, the Giants are in big trouble. He’s the Giants equivalent to Ray Lewis. He needs to show he can still play. If not, the defense will take a huge hit.

4. I think Andre Brown will win the 3rd running back spot, and easily. Danny Ware has talent, but Brown reminds some of Derrick Ward. He’s elusive yet powerful, and has good hands out of the backfield. He might eventually overtake Ahmad Bradshaw

5. I think that Eli Manning will have some added incentive to perform well this year. After Ben Rolthisberger won his 2nd Super Bowl, he has sprinted ahead of Eli as the best QB from the ’04 class. Some, myself included, were upset when the Giants passed on Big Ben. That was erased after a Super Bowl win, of course. But if Eli wants to overtake that spot( and you bet he does) he’ll need a monster season( another Super Bowl wouldn’t hurt.)

6. I think my eyes will be on Michael Boley when he returns from suspension. Can he pick up the defense after missing time to injury? He is supposed to stop the revolving door at weakside linebacker. He will, but it might take time.

7. I think I’m curious to see how the 3rd QB competition plays out. Andre Woodson has been disappointing. Rhett Bomar has a lot of natural talent, but is raw. I believe one will make the team, the other will be on practice squad purgatory. I’m placing my bet on Rhett( sorry, couldn’t resist).

8. I think that, even though this draft looks promising, we have to temper expectations, even with the track record of Jerry Reese. While there is talent, we can’t expect Hakeen Nicks to be the number one reciever, or Andre Brown to replace Derrick Ward’s production. Patience is the word with this draft.

9. I think Chase Blackburn is overlooked. His physical talents are limited, but he makes up for it with heart and smarts. Can never have too many guys like that.

10. I think these are my non- Giants thoughts of the week.

a. I think Mike Vick will play in the NFL this year. He might not get a lot of interest, but the team who takes him will get a talented player who has to be really hungry.

b. I think Mike Singletary will make the 49ers a better team. Not playoff bound, but improved.

c. I think I really enjoyed my time in Milwaukee. Miller Park is tremendous. Great atmosphere. If you get a chance to go to Milwaukee, make sure you see the Brewers play. You won’t be sorry.

d. I think I’m ready for football to start. Nothing better than the live and die aspect every Sunday.
