Pierce Could Still Face Jail Time

In the ongoing Plaxico Burress trial, Antonio Pierce could still face jail time. The NY Post is reporting that the Manhattan DA still wants to prosecute Pierce (note: there are plenty of details about Plax’s status, but since he is no longer a Giant, we’re not going to focus on it)

The Post has also learned Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is still on the hook for allegedly possessing his then-teammate’s gun after the shooting — and could face a jail term of his own.

The article says that because Pierce allegedly had Plax’s gun in his car, that is grounds for the minimum three and a half year sentence for gun possession.

According to law-enforcement sources, as Pierce tended to his trembling, bleeding teammate, a security worker at the club placed the blood-splattered gun in the glove compartment of Pierce’s Cadillac Escalade.

Prosecutors have considered flipping the unidentified Latin Quarter security worker in hopes of nailing Pierce for allegedly bringing the Glock to Burress’ Totowa, NJ, home after first driving Burress to New York-Cornell Hospital, sources said.

I’m not a lawyer, nor do I have experience in law enforcement, but from the looks of it, if the DA can get the security worker to testify against Pierce, it’s trouble for the linebacker. We’ll continue to follow this story as it unfolds.

UPDATE: Vinny DiTrani of the Bergen Record says that the Giants have “no comment” on the Pierce story. He also notes that a team source said ” the club has no indication on how the whole thing will work out.”
