Eli Finally Signs Deal

Eli Manning is officially a rich man. The Giants announced this morning that Manning has signed his six-year extension worth an additional $97.5 million.

“All of us — Eli and this organization — are pleased to have this officially done,” general manager Jerry Reese said in a statement. “Our total focus is on our performance on the field and being the best team we can be in 2009.”

The deal pays him $15.3 million per year–the highest annual salary in the NFL. Because the Giants extended his current deal (in which he makes $9.4 million), the total contract is 7 years, $106.9 million.

All I can say is that I’m glad this is over. Of course, people are going to debate that he’s over paid, and he might be. But, this is the way the market goes. It keeps going up, so Eli was just a beneficiary of that. Eli is now a life long Giants. They can now focus on the upcoming season.
