Redskin Nation predicts win in NY

Larry Michael, who has never ever picked against Washington in his tenure as host of Redskins Nation, has once again worked his magic and picked the Redskins to beat the Giants this Sunday on the road in NY with a score of 28-14. Michael predicts an offensive explosion on Washington’s part, while the Giants might only “muster a couple of scores.”

It goes without saying that in terms of offensive prowess, the burden of proof lies with the Redskins this Sunday, not the Giants. The Giants are defending NFC Champions afterall coming off a very successful year in which they had a premiere rushing attack, silenced their critics with bolstering their points per game statistics, led the league in trips to the redzone, and even without Plaxico Burress the Giants were able to DOMINATE the Redskins on both sides of the ball… Coach Zorn’s words, not mine.

An interesting note about about Larry Michael’s predictions however — for the season he’s predicting the Skins to go 10-6 but week to week his choices have them going 16-0… hard to take seriously Larry but from one hometown football fan to another, I understand.

If anything can be gleaned from the analysis over at Redskins Nation, it’s this… plan on Washington showing up on Sunday, it won’t be a cake walk for the Giants. Since I live in the Redskin’s market, however, I can tell you the buzz on the street couldn’t be further from that conclusion – Skin’s fans are flailing about their team this year, they are dissatisfied with Campbell’s preseason performance, they see a lack of depth all around, and few I’ve talked to have seen any benefit from Jim Zorn’s shift to a so-called ‘West Coast offense’… and rightly so. The Redskins have had serious issues putting points on the board all preseason, even when their first team was up against scrubs.

I can’t in good conscience give the Giants full credit for a Sunday victory, since NFC East games are always bloodbaths and momentum can switch when you least expect it. However, I have my doubts that the Redskins have a serious shot to win in NY on Sunday. And while I would like to see a longball vs longball type of game for a change, I expect both teams to rely heavily on the run. Even with a stacked box, Brandon Jacobs can soften things up for Ahmad Bradshaw and Danny Ware. Then once LaRon Landry and the secondary moves up in run protection, Manning can then take some shots down the field with Smith, Hixon, Manningham, and hopefully Nicks.

On the opposite front, I dont see stopping Portis to be a task mismanaged for the Giants as they’ve shown they can clamp down on the Skins rushing attack consistently. I expect a decent test for the Giants secondary, however, as Zorn has indicated that Jason Campbell will have more freedom this year in terms of throwing the ball down field, which means Bruce Johnson and Terrell Thomas need to step in and make their presence known. And the more physical things get on Sunday, the better it will be for the Giants, and Giants fans.

My prediction: 24-10 Giants

See you here on Sunday for a live recap, Lets Go Giants!
