No Canty at practice

Chris Canty was not at practice today. T-Rock has the take:

The big guy who strained his calf in practice yesterday was not on the field or even with the team this morning for practice. He was likely inside the building receiving treatment. That’s certainly a blow to the defensive line rotation that was in almost perfect equilibrium against the Redskins last week. It’ll also be a blow to Canty, who played four seasons for the Cowboys. He’s never missed an NFL game in his career.

He was the only player I noticed who wasn’t on the field. A few others weren’t in pads to practice, most notably Michael Johnson who had a burner in his shoulder on Sunday and missed practice on Wednesday. He said he’d be back on the field today. Wrong.

Kenny Phillips, the other starting safety, was back in pads and doing drills. Adam Koets was without pads. And Aaron Ross was not wearing pads either but he was doing an awful lot of straight-ahead running.

Wherever Canty was today, a little caution now will pay off lots down the road. I’m sure he’ll make the trip to Dallas — todays reps would have been nice but I think this is yet another precautionary measure until we hear otherwise — odds are he’ll be fine and in another limited rotation on Sunday.
