Next Day Thoughts: Giants Cowboys

Here are some Next Day Thoughts on the 33-31 Giants win over the Cowboys:

– I have absolutely no idea how the Giants won that game. No idea. The Cowboys dominated them. They got a hell of a performance from Eli Manning, maybe the best I’ve ever seen him.

– Another note on Eli: Can we stop hating on this guy? It’s clear that he’s an elite QB. He was masterful last night.

-I’m beginning to see how important Chris Canty is to this run defense. They were tremendous against Clinton Portis and the Redskins. With Canty out, the Cowboys ran all over them. The Bucs are a pretty good running team–they’ll need Canty healthy.

-Plaxico Who? Yeah, Jerry Reese is a genius. He doesn’t go after Anquan Boldin or Braylon Edwards, because he knows Mario Manningham and Steve Smith can get it done. And get it done they did. Eli trusts them. He worked with them all offseason. Plax was never there in offseason workouts. It doesn’t seem like much, but continuity is huge.

-Red zone offense. I don’t know how to fix it. I can’t for the life of me understand why they’re not at least trying Ramses Barden out there. I barely even saw him last night.

-I suffer no illusions that this is a perfect team. Because it’s not. Run defense and red zone offense need work. But going into Dallas and winning that game showed me a lot. Showed me they can win anywhere.

– I’ll say it once, I’ll say ten thousand times: Corey Webster is a tremendous cornerback. Top 5. Should be all-pro.

-And a special shout out to the folks on Twitter last night, who watched the game with us. We had SO many comments, it was almost hard to keep track.  Keep it up!

  1. How can you have no idea? look at the ball control, the passing game, the turnover ratio, they had more opportunities to score… you cant just look at the running stats and say they got dominated. they didnt at all. it was if anything a totally balanced matchup and the Giants put together the last second scoring drive to spoil the party.

great great game, an instant classic… one i wont soon forget.

  2. Randall says:

Dominated? That’s funny. They dominated in 1 category, rushing yards. The Giants DOMINATED in the pass game with 2 -100 yd receivers vs the entire cowboy corp less than 50. The Giants were in the redzone 4 times and came away with 4 fgs vs the Cowboys scoring a td on every opportunity. If the giants only scored 1 td or Tynes makes the 29 yd fg it’s not even a game. That’s not domination by any stretch.
