Phillips To Injured Reserve

Well, the news we feared was coming has arrived. Kenny Phillips is going to the injured reserve for an injured knee. The Giants were awarded S Aaron Rouse from the Packers. Here is a scouting report on Rouse. This is a big loss for the Giants. A lot of people, myself included, were expecting big things from Phillips. He’s a rangy safety, with a lot of power. He will be missed. In his place, we can expect CC Brown to start. Brown, who is a big hitter, but lacks range in coverage, will be an adequate replacement, coupled with Rouse. This is a big loss for the Giants, but it’s not one they can’t overcome. They’ll have to rely more on the corners–who have been already outstanding–and hope that Brown or Rouse steps up.

Quick idea. Once Ross and Dockery are healthy , move Terrell Thomas to safety. We can have the Ross and Webster combo back with Dockery playing the Nickle, and Bruce Johnson backing him up. I remember there was thought of doing this in the offseason even without this set back, why not give it a shot. I dont have any confidence in CC Brown, and Rouse’s measurables are intriguing but there is a reason the Packers put him on waivers. Thomas has really impressed me so far this year, and when Ross comes back he will see less time. So with Thomas and Johnson back there and Ross and Webster at the corners I believe it allows us to have our best players on the field, similar to the thought process behind moving Kiwi to LB last year. Thoughts?

Thomas will have to step up at safety, Dockery and Ross need to get crackin!!
Also looks like it’s time to cut ties with Wilkinson and fill his roster spot with another DB, we’re going to need to work on these things.
HUGE loss, being what he was giving us this year, and the fact that Butler left for STL.
