Next Day Thoughts: Giants Chiefs

Instead of our traditional Next Day Thoughts, we’re going to do it this week in report card form. The professor is in (always wanted to say that, by the way).

Quarterbacks: A

Can’t complain here. Eli was 20-34, 292 yards, 3 touchdowns, and a pick, but that pick was completely on Mario Manningham. He could’ve had more, if not for the injury. Eli is a straight A student.

Running Backs: B+

I’m always looking for more out of the running backs. Maybe I’ve been spoiled. But, I always think they can do better. 156 yards is not bad at all. In fact, it’s great.  But they can do more. They can rush for 200+ yards. That’s why the grade is a little low.

Wide Receivers: A-

This would be an A+, but Mario Manningham decided that he didn’t want to catch the ball. Steve Smith was outstanding. 11 catches,  134 yards, 2 TDs. Hakeem Nicks had a nice welcome back, with his first career touchdown catch. Can’t complain, but Manningham has to hold onto the damn ball. Kevin Boss played well, too.

Defensive Line: A

There was pressure all day long, including 5 players with sacks. When Chris Canty comes back, watch out.

Linebackers: A+

Michael Boley was all over the field. Antonio Pierce was impressive as always. Danny Clark is criminally underrated. Seriously, when will the media realize that this guy is actually a pretty damn good player?

Secondary: A

I thought CC Brown played really well, as did Corey Webster. Bruce Johnson continues to be a revelation.

Special Teams: C+

The kick coverage and punting were great all day long. They even forced a fumble on the opening kick off.  Lawrence Tynes, however, was his inconsistent self. 2/3. Can’t have that. He has to be more consistent.

hopping that Matt Bryant step up and kick well… Tynes scares the hell out of me!
