Talking Points Giants/Chiefs

let’s go over some important things from the Giants Chiefs game.

First, Anyone still think David Carr is a good QB?

It’s nice to have a player as purely athletic and talented as David Carr to be your backup Quarterback. But Carr would scare the hell out of me if he had to play for an extended period of time. After years of Eli Manning’s awarness on the field (not the greatest pure passer ever, but soooooo knowledgeable) Carr would be scary.

Second we can’t just “rest players for easy wins”

The Raiders are a terrible TEAM. But they are a Great collection of individual talent.

All but one of their first round picks since 2003 are still on the team. They are Nnamdi Asomugha, Robert Gallery, Fabian Washington (no longer on team), Michael Huff, JaMarcuss Russel, Darren McFadden, Darrius Heyward Bey.

There is a wealth of different kinds of athletic ability on the Raiders.

JaMarcuss Russel is awful, but the point is the Cowboys and Eagles will ALSO beat the Raiders.

So you can’t throw away an easy win for later.  Hopefully Eli Plays in this game.

Matchup for next week. Nnamdi Asomugha vs Steve Smith.

Asomugha is widely considered the best cover cornerback in the league.  Steve Smith is statistically the number one WR in the league. leading the league in receptions (34), yards (411) and Touchdowns (4).

That should be an interesting matchup. Hopefully they still move Steve Smith around a lot. I love Smith, but Asomugha is very, very good.

There have been 11 teams in the past two years to win three game road trips (including playoffs) Tom Couhglin is responsbile for three of those, two with the Giants and Eli Manning.

Corey Webster Continues to DOMINATE.

Dwaye Bowe had 1 catch for 11 yards. Sanata Moss had virtually nothing. Roy Williams was the same and so was the same for Antonio Bryant.

Combined against the Giants these players have 5 catches for 41 yards.

Don’t expect anything from Louis Murphy or Heyward Bey next week.

5 sacks.

Hey, Osi, nice to see you again.  Tuck is great.  Rocky Bernard got in on the actoin as did Kiwinauka and Boley.

Speaking of Boley I told you all he does two things great. Blitz and pass coverage.

Teams can run right at him at times, but you can’t throw to your running back and tight ends if Boley’s on them and if he blitzes you’re getting hit.

Travis Beckum has catches in two straight weeks. And this week he had a GREAT catch.

Hakeem Nicks is faster than a clocked 40 time.

A lot of comparisions were made between Nicks and Boldin in the draft process and you’re starting to see it.  Nicks catches the ball very fluidly and is nifty after the catch and deceptively fast.

Mario Manningham had a rough day.

He had anywhere between 1-3 drops (2 I count) and looked like he missed one assignment.

Hixon will be returning eventually. Manningham has to keep his focus if he wants to remain such a presence in the regular offense.

Eli Manning 8 TD 2 INT 104 QB rating. 1039 passing yards.

Drew Brees 9 TD 2 INT 108.4 QB rating 1031 passing yards.

New York Giants first in Yards per game for defense and first in passing yards.

Aaron Ross hasn’t been needed yet.  This is a very good secondary. and Boley amplifies that with his great pass coverage.

Kevin Boss sighting. We’ve been waiting. Huge catch in the game. Hopefully no serious injuries. This is getting sickening.

Brandon Jacobs played O.K. But is still being outplayed by Bradshaw.

Hedgecock caught a ball!!! BUT pentalty brought it back.  Dang it! I was hoping that play would work at least once this season since we have run it once every game.

Drop a Meter for the season

Manningham 2 (4)

For the season:

Manningham 4

Hedgecock-3

Jacobs-1

Bradshaw-2

Nicks-1

These do not include last week’s game which I forgot to tally…anyone remeber anydrops vs the Buccanners. I’ll have to go back and look through fo rthem. I know there were 4 or 5, I can’t remember who though. (I counted one for Hedgecock).

Great points. I was disappointed with Manninghams performance but you could tell he and Eli werent on the same page. Eli threw him a few bad passes (one behind him and a few where he was 100% covered) I think once those two find their rythm he will establish himself over Hixon as #2 or #3 depending on how long its takes Nicks to step up. dont count out “Super Mario” just yet.

  2. The only drops that mattered from last week were Jacobs and Hedgecock…. 2 a piece I believe.
