Giants/Chargers Halftime Thoughts:
Wow what a fast first half. The Giants have dominated time of possesion but it doesn’t show on the scoreboard as they are tied with the Chargers 7-7. The Giants marched down the field 68 yards on the opening drive only to have Tynes forget to kick the ball on a field goal attempt. The Chargers were given a short field to work on their second drive and capitalized. They marched right down and scored on what looked to be another miscommunication in the secondary. Then the Giants began a 10:35 game tying drive ending with a touchdown from Manning to Smith
Eli Manning has been very efficient today completing 15 of 17 passes for 129 and a touchdown. He has made some clutch throws on 3rd and long during the 10:35 drive (3rd longest of the NFL season) during the second quarter. He has spread the ball around completing passes to 8 receivers but Steve Smith is the man today. Smith has caught 7 for 53 and the lone score today.
The Giants came out strong running the ball but have slowed throughout the game. Jacobs and Bradshaw have combined for 61 yards, 38 and 23 respectively. Jacobs looked to have a few chances early but was tripped up and slowed down in the backfield.
The defense has played pretty well so far, the addition of Boley, Canty, Sintim and Rouse seems to be helping so far. The Giants have been making lots of defensive substitutions today. They also have made some questionable calls, one in particular dropping Tuck into coverage against Gates on a 3rd and long leading to the score for the Chargers.
Second half prediction:
If the Giants can control the ball like the first half and eliminate the penalties, 5 for 45 so far, I like their chances. If they can keep the Chargers offense on the sidelines and keep the defense fresh I believe they can pull this one off.

kevin gillbride sucks instead of taking a shot in the enzone he runs the ball and settles for the field goal. if you get the touchdown it puts us up by 10 points kills any real chance of losing if you dont get it your in no worse field position. stupid calls they need a new coordnator if they lose this game its his fault

Gilbride was trying to run the clock down and force SD to use their time outs. The real problem was the defensive playcalling on the last drive. Sheridan had Everyone on the line in the middle of the field. Terrible call.
Gilbride was a bit more creative but forgot how effective play action passes are. I chalk this loss off to crap playcalling and a missed FG

Caughlin isn’t the problem. It was a calculated decission to eat up the clock and rely on your D to hold SD. The problem was the playcalling on the defensive side on the last drive, the D was getting beat everytime the over persued by the screen and short pass, why on earth you would put the whole damn team minus the safeties on the line is beyond me. And the play earlier that had tuck drop into coverage was rediculous. Can’t blame caughlin for any of that.
The up side is the team looked good. Manninham got his hands back and Jacobs is running better. If tunes remembered to kick that field goal we would have walked away with a W

the giants need to learn to go for it on fourth down no matter what.
2 huge fourth down situations decided this game, the first drive and the last drive.
4th and inches in the red zone, you go for it.
4th and goal when you’re up by 3… you go for it.
i knew as soon as tynes remembered to and did kick that ball to put the giants up by 6, it was going to end in disappointment.
lets just hope they can find a way to get hot at the end of the season, like the eagles last year and the giants in 2007.

if they would have passed the ball once would 5 seconds have made a difference. if they got it in the enzone it was a giant win

yeah it would have been a nice time to squeeze in a play action pass to boss. That holding call killed it.
I cant wait to hear WTF happened on that botched FG.
on another note the D looked better with Canty, boley in and CC out. Hopefully Boley didnt reinjur himself.
