Sound Familiar?

Check out the Philly / San Diego One Liners from PFT if you want some familiar analysis of how you lose a game to a team you should have beaten.

Highlights:

Eagles coach Andy Reid was content to settle for field goals in the red zone and it added up to a 31-23 loss.

The Eagles, the fifth-most penalized team in the NFL entering Week 10, were flagged nine times for 70 yards.

…Chargers QB Philip Rivers led a 66-yard drive for a field goal that iced the game.

and here’s a Florio bonus: The most recent loss will have Reid critics carping again about his failure to commit to the run.

The lessons are timeless and relevant for the Giants — so please take note.

DO NOT abandon the run, under any circumstance. Always play to your strengths and for NFC East teams that always includes the run game. Yeah, McNabb had 400+ yards in a LOSS…. my point is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

DO find a way to stop the other team and their star quarterback. Create confusion, switch things up at the last second, blitz, play man coverage, get physical.

DO NOT play for field goals. Play to win the game… and to do that consistently you have to score touchdowns. The Eagles are usually great a finding a way to get into the red zone and come away with 7 points… good for them. But the Giants need to find a way to stay creative and dynamic down in the red zone and come away with more than 3 from now on. Those situations will literally make or break the game, as has been proven by San Diego twice in 2 weeks.

STOP committing stupid penalties.

….

If the Giants can get their act together and play cohesive football they have a shot to win the division still, unbelievably. Learn from your mistakes, commit to making adjustments and find a way to win the next game.
