We got our wish, gulp.

According to NY Daily News:

Jonathan Goff was working with the first team at middle linebacker at practice this afternoon, which seems to be a pretty good indication that he’ll start there on Sunday.

This is huge. Coughlin is clearly going out on a limb here and trusting his rookie to ignite a severely struggling aspect of the defense that has plagued the Giants for the last 2 years… the middle of the field.

I think the more guys you can use to shut down short and mid range passes, the better. It was obvious something new needed to be done and this move from the Giants coaching staff while sudden — should not be shocking. It is a bit surprising to me atleast that Coughlin is breaking the chain of seniority with regards to playing time… but I suppose the point is conceded that they have nothing left to lose from where they sit in the NFC East.

If this move pays off and Goff plays hungry and dominates the field like we all think he will, I will be the first to acknowledge that we here at Giants Gab would love to work as incredibly highly paid outside consultants for the Giants. The terms are of course retroactive for everything else we got right here, but the good news is that all we got wrong can be considered research and development.

Your move, Coughlin.

I am looking forward to seeing what Goff can do, if he plays well Pierce might as well pack his bags.

  3. And of course by rookie you mean second year player.

Good, if he’s ready, let’s see what he’s got.

Can’t do much worse on defense.
