Umenyiora and Robbins Benched?

Per many New York media reports it looks line the Osi Umenyiora and Fred Robbins have been sent to the bench.

It appears that defensive end Osi Umenyiora and defensive tackle Fred Robbins have been benched in favor of end Mathias Kiwanuka and tackle Chris Canty. Kiwanuka and Canty were working with the first team during the brief portion of practice open to the media, and Umenyiora and Robbins were working with the second team.

Meanwhile, defensive tackle Rocky Bernard might be even farther down in the rotation. The Giants practiced a goal-line defense drill during the portion of practice and he wasn’t included.

Unfortunately Michael Johnson missed his third day of practice and C.C. Brown was inserted back into the starting lineup.  Look for the Cowboys to take advantage of that match-up.

I guess we will see what the new look Giants defense can do on Sunday.

They should just go ahead and cut Rocky. Hopefully benching Osi will wake him up.

We can NOT start CC and Rouse. Why wouldn’t we either play a 3 CB (Ross, Thomas, Webster)/ 1 S configuration or a 5-3?

Do you hear that? That’s the ship sinking!! (AH-Rooga)

good… maybe this is going to wake them up

It’s not that simple to switch from 4-3 to 3-4

The nose tackle it’s the most important thing in the 3-4 defense, and if we’re complaining about our DTs not playing well right now, how can we trust one of them to do such an important function in the middle taking 2 gaps???

and how about the linebackers??? in the middle we would have boley and goff? and the OLB, the pass rushers??? one of them should be clint sintim and the other kiwanuka, them what we would do with tuck and umenyiora??

turn tuck into a 3-4 DE it’s a waste of talent, in my opinion… umenyiora is already a small 4-3 DE, so in a 3-4 he would have to play OLB, but that takes time to learn coverage and other things, so he would be benched, and i know he’s not playing well, but it’s still to much talent to bench for most of the time

      impossible, in my opinion

It’s not impossible. Greenbay did and there defense is great this year. Tuck could gain 10 extra pounds and play end. The other end will be canty. Osi, sintim, kiwanuka would play olb. Osi and kiwi will have to learn coverage but they will like Aaron kampman. The middle backers would be boley+goff if he excels, or boley and we draft another/ or pick one up in free agency aka demeco ryans. For the nose tackle position, we could try out cofield, Alford ~ Robbins, bernand f.a…. And if none are able to play it, we could draft one or trade them for one. Were loaded at corner with Webster, Ross, Thomas, dockery, Johnson. We have a great young safety in Kenny Phillips who will play again hopefully, we also have Aaron rouse who I prefer over Michael Johnson to be honest. Brown is great on running downs but sucks in pass coverage. If they don’t feel safe with the safeties we have, pick one up in free agency or draft one.

Tuck is a complete 4-3 DE… i think would be waste of talent to make him a 3-4 DE

and Green Bay drafted a monster in BJ Raji, and we won’t be able to do the same thing given our draft position and the next year draft class

4-3 defense worked great for the giants, i don’t think that the recent failure it’s the systems fault

    injuries + sheridan = disaster
