Giants Beat Cowboys 31-24, Improve to 7-5

In a must win game, the Giants came through, beating the Cowboys and keeping their playoff hopes alive for at least one more week.

The Cowboys started off the scoring in the first quarter, on a 34 yard field goal by Nick Folk. Later in the first, Tony Romo found Roy Williams for a 4 yard touchdown pass.

The Giants answered late in the second, with a 21 yard TD pass to Hakeem Nicks. After Osi Umenyiora recovered a fumble, Brandon Jacobs punched it in from a yard away, to give the Giants a 14-10 lead at the half.

The Cowboys started off the scoring in the third quarter, on a 5 yard pass to Roy Williams, giving the ‘Boys a 17-14 lead. The Giants answered right back, when Brandon Jacobs took a screen pass 74 yards for the touchdown, and the Giants took a 21-17 lead.

In the 4th quarter, Lawrence Tynes kicked a 34 yard field goal. The Giants added some insurance points, when Domenik Hixon ran a punt return 79 yards for a touchdown. The Cowboys brought it to within 7 on a 22 yard touchdown pass to Miles Austin, but it wasn’t enough to take the lead.

The Giants offense really got going at the end of the second quarter, whe n they scored two touchdowns. The passing game was really moving, and Brandon Jacobs started to produce. They fought through early struggles, and began to produce.

Defense started off rough, especially in pass defense, but when it mattered most, they made some big plays. While pass defense was truly awful, the Cowboys could get nothing going on the run. Also, the Giants D continued to make big plays, whether it was a timely stop or a timely sack. They rebounded after a tough start.

Domenik Hixon’s punt return was beyond huge. It will now be known as “The Punt Return That Saved A Season”. Incredible momentum swing. After that, the Giants D made a stop. That’s why Hixon is so valuable as a punt returner.

The Giants needed this game. Without it, they have a minute chance of making the playoffs. Now, with this win, the Giants have a chance to make the playoffs. They have to keep winning. But, they are alive for one more week. We weren’t sure which Giants team would show up. The 5-0 team, or the one against the Broncos. This was the 5-0 team. They played with heart, passion, fire. And it paid off.

I’m attending a conference out here in San Fransisco, was looking at the Golden Gate bridge as the Giants won the game. Last I had checked in via smartphone the Giants were down 10-0 in the second.

I told you Hixon was on the cusp baby!!
