Jim Zorn: Right Again (about the Giants)

Once again, Jim Zorn has the absolute perfect perspective on the Giants performance this season. When asked:

“Are you surprised after the Giants 5-0 start they are in the position they are right now?”

Zorn said:

Well, it’s just hard to win. I am not surprised; it doesn’t make them a poor team. We have had our own struggles since the last time we played New York as well. We have gone different paths. I think both teams continue to improve, continue to fight. That’s what I see in them. They are coached well, they play with heart and they just have come out at the short end of some of the situations. You take three or four plays, things that I look at, and it can be just the opposite. They can be dominating.

You hear this all the time from coaches, that it’s hard to win in the NFL. And it’s not always from losing coaches that you here that perspective. And he’s right about coming up on the short end of a few situations, the San Diego and latest Philadelphia game comes to my mind. The truth is that not all the losses have been blowouts, even though it feels that way to us fans. And Zorn’s summation hits home to me:

This is a talented football team with heart that is still capable of winning football games. He actually used the word dominate. And the last 3 times the Giants played the Skins, that’s EXACTLY what they did. Dominate.

Feel a little better now? I do..

And did you know the Cowboys play the Saints in Nawlins this weekend?

yea but you have to also consider its not that we can not win, some blame goes to the coaching staff and I’m gonna point fingers at Defensive Coordinator Sheridan-

If you look at our safetys they dont a) pay attention or b) bad play calling..

Our losses come from the same type of defense:

The reason.. the Giants dont have the best corners.. We have decent corners not the best.. If we play a zone then we need to do a better job.. We can go man to man bc our corners get beat all the time.. Look at all the games we’ve lost and check out the corners and safeties.. our line is whats helping ALOT.. Eli seems to have been playing scared lately.. if you hurt Eli then you need to say something instead of blowing games with deep balls just to get them picked…

It is hard to win inthe NFL.. but take a look at the saints.. the ENTIRE TEAM PLAYS.. you’re not gonna get beat deep.. and they read the plays…

Let me calm down now.. but I do feel a little better now that I had a chance to vent..

    • you’re right about the zone – the handoffs have been horrible. no communication and its choppy at best.

the saints play a lot of tight man coverage and it works well to get physical and try and take away a lot of underneath stuff. they do a good job this year… but its tought to sustain man coverage for 60 minutes. guys get tired and lose it a bit.

it takes an entire team to win like that too, you’re right. everyone must show up.

The Giants had that last year for sure, until Plax blew his leg apart anyway.
