5 Keys To Beating The Panthers

Hope you and your family had a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! There is still a football game to be played, and it’s the last Giants game in the Meadowlands. The Panthers come to visit. They are riding high off a win against Minnesota. Here are 5 Keys to Beating the Panthers.

1. Pass rush

Steve Smith (the Panthers one) is a great receiver, and it looks like he’s getting back on track. He’s capable of having a HUGE game. The Giants, obviously, have to limit that. They do that by getting a lot of pressure on Matt Moore. This worked great against the Redskins. A great pass rush gives the corners less time to cover. And because the secondary is depleted, they need less time to cover.

2. Julius Peppers

Julius Peppers had, arguably, his best game as a pro last week against the Vikings. His performance benched one of the best left tackles in the game, Bryant McKinnie. Dave Diehl isn’t as good as McKinnie. The Giants will have to use a tight end–maybe newly acquired Scott Chandler–to help out Diehl. Peppers is capable of being in the backfield on every play. The Giants have to give Diehl all the help he needs.

3. Mix it up!

The Panthers are trotting out Matt Moore at QB, who’s pretty inexperienced. Don’t be afraid to mix things up on defense, with different looks. Try that 5-1-5 we heard about in training camp. Stunts. Anything to make Moore, um, more uncomfortable out there.

4. Don’t get caught up

Even though this is the last time the Giants will play at Giants Stadium, they can’t let the emotion of the day get to them. Have to stay focused on the task at hand, and that’s a very important football game. There’s going to be ceremonies, and emotion. But the Giants have to block it out.

5. Can I get a Repeat?

The Giants were awesome against Washington. Obviously, I would love to see a duplicate performance. I’m not sure if they can. But, I want to see the same effort, the same swarming to the ball, the same controlled recklessness. If they do that, they will win.
