Panthers Embarass Giants, Win 41-9

That was ugly. In a game the Giants needed to win to stay alive, the Giants played like it was a preseason game. Absolutely no effort. No fire. No passion. It was a disgrace to watch.

In lieu of our traditional game story, I just need to vent. Here goes:

I’ve never seen a team so unprepared to play a football game, a meaningful football game. After the first drive, when Hedgecock had the holding penalty that negated the Smith TD, and the Manningham fumble, it’s like that was all they had. And it was. Defense couldn’t tackle anyone. Panthers would routinely get three or 4 more yards after contact. No willingness to work. No willingness to make an effort. No will to win. Awful

It’s very unlikely that the Giants will make the playoffs. We need two Cowboys losses and a Giants win next Sunday. Very unlikely. I’m not counting on it. So, this was the game that mattered most. And they come out flat. They come out like it doesn’t even matter. They come out like it’s a pick up game in the par. The Giants, for the first time in awhile, looked like they were just playing for the paycheck. I’ve seen some bad Giants teams. But, there was always effort. There was always heart. Even if the results didn’t turn out good, you know they left everything on the field. The Giants left nothing on the field. I don’t know where they left it.

In the last game at Giants Stadium, you’d expect to see some emotion. Send the fans off right. Send the place off right. Instead, this. This unacceptable effort. Unacceptable. With the playoffs¬† on the line. I can’t fathom it. The Giants didn’t really deserve to make the playoffs. They were just benefiting from their early cupcake schedule. I guess this is fitting. For a team so up and down, to look like World Champions against the Redskins, and then a week later to look like a middle school team, it was fitting to come out this way. Still, it’s embarrassing. As a fan, I want my team to give it their all. I can’t think of anyone who did. And it’s a shame.

For a team to be so unprepared to play a game of so much consequence is unacceptable to us fans and, I hope, to the organization. We must discharge Coughlin and Sheridan forthwith. We need Bill Cowher to come in here and clean house. We can rebuild in two-three years while living with 8-8 teams. (We’re doing that now with teams supposed to go deep into the playoffs.)

  2. Jesse Cassel says:

I think thats a little drastic George. Coughlin is a great coach i think they need to get new Offensive a Defensive coordinators, two linebackers (one freeagent, one drafted)pick up some o-line depth in the draft, get a new DE and then maybe draft a corner or a saftey. I would not rebuild yet, the team was mabe one or two peices away to start the season and then it was plauged with injury.
