The Giants are Bullies (talking points:Giants-Panthers)

The New York Giants are bullies. You know how a bully works. A bully beats up on people who are smaller than them, and then the second the bully gets hit they cowher into a corner and wait for someone weaker with no fight to come along to pick on again.

This is the 2009 New York Giants. They clobbered bad teams (Tampa Bay, Oakland, Washington), but anytime a competive team with spirit came along they caved (Philly, New Orleans, Arizona, Carolina).

Bullies.

Let’s start with some good before we get to All the bad.

The New York Giants are one of the five worst defenses in the league (points per game), but they have nearly as many wins as the four teams that are worse than them.

What does that mean? It means even with this God-awful defense; Eli Manning is still a Winner.

Speaking of Eli, He now has 27 Touchdowns, 12 Interceptions, 3880 yards and a QB rating of 94.2 on the season.

In other words, if this was even a competent defense, Eli Manning would be a legetimate M.V.P candidate.

Steve Smith is Three Shy of 100 Receptions on the Season. He also has 1,163 yards and 7 Touchdowns. Next week Steve Smith should get another 3 receptions and 40 yards which would give him a 100 catches and 1,200 yards on the season.

Pretty Darn Good. That’s Pro-Bowl caliber.

He’s also, statistically one of the best third down receivers in the league.

Terrell Thomas is a pretty good player.

He’s played really late this season…that Mushin Muhammed Touchdown Pass was on Thomas, but that was a pretty perfect throw. As a Corner you try to make the QB make difficult throws, the young Panthers Quarterback did that.

Thomas has really improved in his run defense.

Manningham had some nifty receptions today. We’ll get to the bad later.

Next week with the Giants out of playoff contention (assuming the Cowboys beat the hapless Redskins) The Giants will have no reason not to play Ramses Barden so that would be fun.

All right, I think that about covers the good from this game.

Oh one more, if the Giants lose next week they will be 8-8. (last year Bills got a number 11th overall pick at 7-9). This year the Giants should be near the top 15.

The Bad.

Madison Hedgecock’s AWFUL Game.

That disgraceful drop in the End-Zone on that perfect Eli Pass.

Then that Terrible hold on the first drive in the game, which seemed to deflate the entire team for some reason.

The Giants Third Down Efficency on Offense was only 38 percent. That’s really suprising becuase that’s probably Eli’s biggest strength (and Steve Smith excels on third down)

Gave up 4 sacks, and had another 25 fumbles. I exaggerate, but seriously the fumbling is out-of-control. Last year the Giants had 13 Turnovers ALL Season. Eli had 10 INT which means the team fumbled three balls all last season. This season (Mario Manningham-I’m looking at you! Eli, you too!)  the fumbles have been awful.

Brandon Jacobs was Terrible. Bradshaw got most of his yards against nickel and Dime Fronts.

Feagles averaged 37.3 yards per punt…again. This must be corrected heading into next season.

Return game was pedestrian. Hixon is good, but I’m not sure if it’s Hixon or the Blocking. One of the two is not doing well.

Defense is Embarassing. Self-explanatory

Can’t Even Make an Extra Point

33% Red Zone Efficiency

Carolina had a 66 percent on third down getting a first down.
Tackling was Atrocious.

That’s all I have on this game…leave it.

We’ll still preview next weeks’ game, but after that there will be a lot of Free Agency, and draft information.

Have a nice day, everyone.

Vent your frustrations as the Giants close down the ol’ stadium with a pitiful performance.

I seriously think that the Defensive players purposely f-ed up this season to stick it to dumb ass D.C. Sheridan. There is no other answer to the absolutely horrible play all season long!! Let’s hope that we all hear of Sheridan’s pink slip within the next two weeks!!! He is not a leader, not to mention that he had no reason to be the DC in the first place. He coached the LB’s and they were the worst part of the defense!!

WTF! What a waste of a season!!

  2. BlueManFla says:

Although I agree that Sheridan is in over his head, there were plenty of plays where he called the correct scheme and the atrocious tackling led to the few extra yards needed for a first down. I honestly think that the position coaches bear the major portion of the blame for this debacle. Poor tacking technique all around.

Yet heards must roll so I think Sheridan will be gone and possibly some of the position coaches.

It’s too bad that the Giants made the Panthers look so good. It may have saved Fox’s job, which is a real shame since I was hoping he would be available should the Giants decide that Sheridan is history.

    • CMH says:

There are some rumors that if the Rams sale goes through that the new owners will want their own guy in as Head Coach.

If that happens, I wonder if we could lure Spags back as our DC with the promise that he will succeed Caughlin.

  3. CMH-can’t promise Spags he’ll succeed Coughlin becuase of the Rooney Rule.

Maybe they can make a discreet, unwritten promise, but who knows if Spags would stake his luck on the Giants being truthful about that.
