Would it Be Better for the Giants to Lose or Win Sunday?

If you’re an N.F.L. player with pride of course you want to win on Sunday, but fans think about losing games for better draft position all the time.

This weekend is a very interesting one for the New York Giants who currently sit at 8-7 and can not make the playoffs.

It is interesting becuase this year there are copious teams that are also hovering around .500.

Because the Giants can not make the playoffs they will select no later than 20th in the upcoming draft (That is if they have the best record of the non-playoff teams).

The Giants can finish 9-7.

The Steelers, Texans, Falcons, and Broncos can also finish 9-7 and not make the playoffs.

The first tie-breaker for the draft is strength of schedule (according to wikipedia).

if the Giants win this weekend the Giants can theoratically still have the lowest strength of schedule of these teams (when I go to league standings right now the Giants are listed behind the Falcons, Ravens, Broncos, and Texans), which would mean the Giants could pick 16th perhaps, even if they win if everyone else wins.

Now, if the Giants lose there are Eight teams that can finish 8-8 (the Steelers and Dolphins can not both finish 8-8 since they play each other).

There are only 10 teams out of the 32 teams in the league who Can’t Finish 8-8 this year.

Depending on tie Breakers that could mean the Giants could theoratically pick 11th in the draft (although becuase the Eagles, Cowboys, Saints, and Vikings, Cardinals, all have a lot of wins the Giants will probably have one of the higher strengths of schedules).

The question is would be better as a fan to root for the Giants to lose this week becuase theoratically the draft position could change as many as 9 positions (if the Giants had the tie-breakers, but more likely it would probably range 4 or 5 positions). And because a Giants win this weekend would also give the opportunity for the Dallas Cowboys to end up with the number 2 seed if everything broke the Cowboys way

And Maybe another dismal perforamce will spell the end, without any questions for Bill Sheridan.

Or do we as fans root to end the season on a high note?

One thing I know I’m rooting for is for Eli Manning to break some franchise Records and Ramses Barden to get on the field and make a catch.

Steve Smith also needs Three Catches to Amass 100 for the season.

Ramses barden is a nice reiciver. He has talent and hes big. Maybe if he had played when we got 2 th redzone we wouldnt have been so bad in that area.

  2. Jesse Cassel says:

yea I want to see a win but in reality what does it matter, In all honesty id rather see a loss and mabe get a better pick so we can draft a linebacker

  3. Michael S says:

Why draft a linebacker in the first round?? We need to draft the best cover safety to play next to 21-hoping he returns. We have goff, sintim and boley who should start next year. Goff is underated.

  6. Jesse Cassel says:

why do you think the run defense is so bad, Line backers are supose to make tackles, they have none

  7. KevinC says:

You want a better draft position, you play the second and third string and sit key players.
