Thoughts On The Sheridan Firing

Well, we saw this one coming. Of course, Bill Sheridan has been fired as defensive coordinator. And while you never want to see someone fired, if the Giants didn’t fire, I’d fear there would be a mass revolt from Giants fans.

Look, Sheridan did not do a good job. While he had injuries, his backups did nothing. There wasn’t a consistent pass rush. I also wonder what the players thought of him. Remember when Osi walked out? That never happens on a football team. There had to be a lack of trust.

The defense started the year off great. But that was against inferior teams. Against the good ones, the Giants had no chance. The last two weeks, there was no effort. Sheridan had to go. There was no choice.

We can talk about replacements. Dick Jauron has been mentioned. I wouldn’t mind that. He’s experienced. But, I wouldn’t mind a fiery guy, a Spagnuolo-type guy. The Giants loved playing for Spags. We need someone like that.

I dont think we can get Dom Capers, I wouldnt mind Jauron. I wouldnt even mind our DB’s coach Peter Giunta. They guy won a ring with the rams as DC and like you said, there were lots of injuries, especially to the DB’s with Phillips, Ross and Webster all missing time.

Either way, it has to be better next year. Horaaaaaay

Even though the Giants started 5-0, I was concerned. Against Tampa Bay and Oakland, there were plays those teams made that a good Giants defense would never have allowed.

Correct me if I’m mistaken but did anyone ever see Sheridan interact with the Defense on the sideline? The one thing I always remember about Spags is the defense huddled around him making adjustments.

I know Sheridan wanted to be in the booth and Coughlin nixed that but he might as well have been in the booth upstairs for all the lack of interaction I witnessed.
