NFP caught up with former Giant WR, Special Teamer, ehem, Superbowl Hero… and now current Baltimore Raven David Tyree.
When reminded of the famous helmet catch that setup the Superbowl winning drive for the Giants, Tyree said:
“Now when I see it, it’s a quick snapshot back in time that, for me, causes me to appreciate that moment that much more. For me, personally, it’s caused me to think about God’s grace in my life and how it allowed me to be a part of NFL history in such a way.”
In early 2008, Tyree was sidelined with a knee injury and never recovered to help the Giants spring past the rival Eagles in the first round of the playoffs, the lack of Plaxico Burress obviously a factor in the one-and-done playoff birth that no one likes to remember, let alone talk about… especially this guy. Wow that’s disturbing — maybe its better “We” didn’t make the playoffs this year, after all. Ouch.
But nevertheless, David Tyree is heading up to NE to play the Patriots this weekend and we have to wish him well. It’s clearly unfortunate but understandable as to why Tyree was cut from the Giants in 2009. The WR position did not suffer without him but it’s good to see the former Giant didn’t take anything personally and still has a shot to come up big for his team again in the post season, against a very familiar opponent.
Best to David Tyree this weekend on behalf of Giants Gab.
