New Chicago Bears OC: Zorn and Gilbride Candidates

CSN Chicago reports that Coaches Jim Zorn (formerly of the Redskins) and OC Kevin Gilbride (Giants, of course) are top candidates for the new offensive coordinator position that has opened up in Chi town.

Kip Lewis writes:

Gilbride could potentially join the team as the offensive coordinator, whereas Zorn could serve as either the quarterbacks’ coach, the offensive coordinator, or both.

My two cents — Zorn WAS a QB coach in Seattle, reinstate him to those responsibilities if you must hire him for anything. He cannot possibly improve the situation in Chicago considering the same reasons why the Bears have been dismal mirror the Redskins’ blight — lack of running game, QB protection, 3rd down conversions/first downs, and due to all this their time of possession has suffered… an absolutely verbatim situation for Washingto. Zorn should not be considered as a serious candidate unless you want more of the same.

However, Kevin Gilbride can step in and upgrade all of those areas tomorrow… these are things that became the Giants strengths since Gilbride took over control of the offensive playcalling and his cold weather style of football and game management will increase the production of the Bears’ offense, without question.

I’m not saying this because I want to try someone else out as our OC (even though I do) but it’s the truth. Kevin Gilbride has a Superbowl title with the Giants under his belt because these key areas were addressed for the Gmen and it was winning formula… the Bears rightly need to look at the problem areas listed above and figure out how best to turn it around next season with game plan, personnel, play calling, and execution. Gilbride might just be the perfect fit.

What are your thoughts? Would you rather see Gilbride go to Oakland as head coach?

Why would gilbride leave NY to take the same job at Chicago when NY is much more stacked and ready to go? I’d be excited to get a different OC but sadly it looks like he’ll stick with it unless Oak comes through which I doubt will happen.

I absolutely love the blog btw! It makes my morning. Keep it up!

He may get pushed out of NY, you never know.

Status quo won’t do… sometimes you have no choice but to move on.

He would be a perfect fit in Chicago though i think

I would keep Gilbride. There aren’t too many candidates out there that can improve on the Giants being ranked about 8th in total offense last year.
