Because the season is winding down, pundits are beginning their mock drafts. Personally, it’s way too early to do a mock, but they’re doing it nonetheless. Here are two mock drafts, and who the Giants pick.
Brooks has the Giants selecting Florida ILB Brandon Spikes. Jesse did a detailed breakdown of Spikes here. Jesse is against him, and so am I. He has a lot of talent, but is not a top-15 pick. Interesting enough, Brooks has Tennessee S Eric Berry going 13 to the 49ers. If Berry does indeed fall to 13 (which I don’t expect him to. In my mind, he’s a top 5 pick), then the Giants have to do everything they can to trade up. Berry is a potential difference-maker, and teaming him with Kenny Phillips is pretty damn exciting.
Kiper has the Giants selecting Florida DE Carlos Dunlap. Dunlap is a high-risk, high-reward prospect. A ton of talent, and an incredible athlete. But, he has character issues (A DUI, work ethic has been questioned), and the Jints tend to stay away from that. Dunlap is 6-6, 293. Kiper compared him to Jevon Kearse. I still don’t like this pick. While the Giants need to rush the passer better, Dunlap is too much of a risk for me.
Mel kiper is an idiot he’s alwas wrong. How he’s on tv is beyond me, a trained monkey could do his job better. Who ever he has us picking I pray we don’t pick. He had Brady Quinn as the second coming of Tom Brady.
I’ll be profiling Carlos Dunlap sometime soon, by the way.

when he did this mock draft wont of made sense for the giants to select safety Earl Thomas because thats how i want the giants to get he is a perfect fit in tampa 2 a ballhawk
how about trade david carr for eric berry with tampa bay after the draft… straight up.
hahaha!
If we draft a DE with that pick at 15 I’ll eat my hat. Then break something expensive out of fustration. He’s a good player I guess but we already have 3 DE plus Sintim.
let kill 2 birds wit 1 stone linebacker or safety? we can sell d-lineman!!!trade up and down make it simple t. mayes!!!!
Huh. Brooks has Berry falling to the Broncos in the middle of the first round. I have to think that Reese would pull the trigger on a trade if that were to happen. It would cost us, what, a fourth and fifth round pick to move up three spots, and we’d end up with probably the best safety prospect in five years.
Also, drafting a DE is patently insane, unless Kiper knows something about the transition to a Tampa-2 that we don’t. (This has been my pet theory since we signed Fewell: Justin Tuck IS Derrick Brooks in our version of the Tampa-2. He was an absolute monster when we moved him inside during that Super Bowl run, and with him and Cofield inside and Osi and Kiwi at end, that’s a line to be reckoned with. If we draft a couple of rangy linebackers, I think we could turn the front seven around for 2010)
Ugh, Simeon Rice, not Derrick Brooks… need my coffee…
