They both were awful, just people dont realize just how bad Mike Johnson was these last 2 years.

Profootballfocus.com listed that there were 83 safties that played atleast 25% of their teams snaps. Mike Johnson was rated as the 79th saftey.

In 2009 he was rated as the 85th best saftey, out of 87 safties who played atleast 25% snaps.

So if there are 32 teams, and 2 safties per team, there are 64 starting safties. In 2008 he was ranked 79th, in 2009 he was ranked 85th, clearly backups were rated higher then Mike Johnson, and thats exactly what he should be.

I have no idea why they didnt try to line up Beckum in Hedgecocks place when they are in the red zone/short yardage.

I mean for some reason they love to throw hedgecock the ball, why not replace him with you know, someone who can catch, and is actually a reciever. Dont get me wrong, Hedgecock is a great blocker, but leave the recieveing duties to someone else

Travis Beckum is on his way.... but they might want to try Stonehands Hedgecock out there to shake things up a bit.

no one would expect that, it just... might... work.

Saftey help is neccessary. But a pass rushing fat man in the middle of our DLine will greatly benefit our defensive backfield. Our new D-Line coachs specialty is the DT as well. I think we will be drafting a safety but know where near the first round. The closer you are to the ball the more usefull the position. On a different note, when is our H-back position going to show up. Eli needs all the help he can get.

That is the best news I heard all offseason. He was a major questionmark, and it looks like he is going to be ready for next season.

Now how ready he will be is the next question? How long will it for him to return to normal?

These questions are why I believe the Giants are going to get atleast one saftey, but more likely they are going to get 2 safties in either FA/Draft or both.

Giants need to have security if Phillips is not ready, they need an actual backup, not someone looking up and the sky out there.

And they need a play maker next to him. Everyone wants to talk about how bad C.C. Brown was last year, but Mike Johnson has been one of the worst safties in the league these last TWO YEARS! Yes Brown was better then Johnson.

What I would do is try to find a PROVEN saftey in Free Agency, that you feel comfortable starting if KP cant go.

And in the draft, draft a real Free Saftey, one that can cover ground, and make plays. I have my eyes on Earl Thomas in the first round, or Nate Allen in the 2nd round. Both seem to be ballhawks, and thats exactly what our defense needs.
