Spend Or Save?

I’m a Yankees fan, so when it comes to free agency, I expect to see big name free agents come to the Bronx. As a Giants fan, it’s a little different. Mostly, you see them build through the draft. And it’s worked tremendously. While they do spend on free agents, they don’t usually make a splash, like the Yanks do. Last year, however, they did. Chris Canty, Michael Boley and Rocky Bernard all got big deals. With the exception of Boley (and even he struggled), their foray into free agency got them nothing. $80 million dollars, and it’s an 8-8 season.

This offseason, they could go after Karlos Dansby, Julius Peppers, and Darren Sharper. All would be great additions. But, after last year’s disaster, should they spend to get Karlos Dansby? Or should they save and draft Rolando McClain? Post your thoughts in┬áthe┬ácomments.

I don’t want Peppers for some untangible reason, but I’d take either Dansby or Sharper. If they don’t come on board, I’d be just as happy with a S pick or LB pick, either one. I hope they wait till second or third round to pick OL. I think the defense needs either some veteran leadership or some fast young draft talent.

Out of those three, I would like to see Sharper, and mainly for the reason he wont be able to pick off Eli. And out of those three, he would fill a big need, and would be the cheapest avil.

But the draft is the way to go. In this years FA class there isnt a whole lot of guys who are worth the kind of money you want to spend. In other words, you are paying more for a guy who might not be worth it, becuase he is the best option avil.

Aside from being in the top 10, the draft is a lot cheaper, and a lot younger than the FA route. And comparing our history in the draft to our FA history, I feel comfortable about addressing our needs through the draft.

I love the granderson Sportscenter highlights when an anchor says if his name was anderson he wouldnt have made that catch but because his name is Granderson it was possible.

the giants cannot afford peppers with all the other help they need.

assuming they get 5 defensive players and a couple offensive liners in the draft… I still regardless think Dansby or Sharper would seriously upgrade the LB or S position, respectively.

I’m actually hearing a lot more about Antrell Rolle coming to the Giants more so than Darren Sharper.
