In Case Rolle Doesn’t Work Out, Giants Reaching Out To Other Safeties

It seems like the Giants are targeting Antrel Rolle. Reports are indicating that a deal could be signed by today or tomorrow. But, in case the deal doesn’t go through, the Giants are exploring other options at safety.

According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, the Giants have reached out to free agent Darren Sharper–a Giant killer. According to Garafaolo, Sharper is the contingency plan for Rolle. The Giants have also reached out to Antoine Bethea, who was assigned a first round tender by the Colts. They are probably just kicking the tires on him. Finally, the Giants have reached out to Oshiomogho Atogwe, who received a low round tender from the Rams. He would be more likely than Bethea.

Whether it’s Rolle, Sharper or Atogwe, it appears the Giants will leave free agency with an upgrade at safety.

I’d rather have Sharper or Atogwe than Rolle. I dont think Rolle is worth the price tag. Sharper is old but is a beast of an player. He could light a fire under the defense and help groom a draft pick.

WIth all the talk that safetys are not high commodity and will not go fast in the draft I’m nto sure why the GMen didnt decide to go MLB with free agency and Safety in draft. They could easily pick up a decent safety in the draft and sharper to groom him for two years and bring some excitement to the team. I think Rolle is going to be another BUST like last years free agents (minus Boley)
