Sharper to the Big Apple?

Via PFT – Darren Sharper indicated he would like to play for a New York team in 2010 since he’s not getting a reworked contract (read higher salary) in New Orleans.

Sharper was quoted:

“The New York teams, there’s something about the big lights and the big city that fits me, and I know I would fit there.”

Yes he’s 34. Yes he just won a ring.  No he’s probably not still hungry enough to go for an interception record with the Giants. No the Giants probably don’t need another high priced safety.

But damnit, it’s fun to speculate.

I’d rather see Sharper in Blue that Rolle. Proven leader…Scary as hell…and great mentor for the a drafted rookie. And he wouldnt want nearly as much as Rolle’s over paid A$$ and we could sign him for less time.

  2. maybe Rolle should pitch in some cash to help out now that Sharper wants in on NYC

Let’s get him! Don’t pay too much (age and injury) but he can mentor both Phillips and Rolle as Phillips still recovers and should be worked in slowly.

Everyone is always so convinced that a veteran wants to come in and mentor people, you ever think that he just wants to come in and play? Alot of guys aren’t interested in mentoring, and a guy towards the end of his career who still can play at a pro bowl level, probably is more interested in getting out there and playing. And since when does Antrel Rolle need mentoring? The guy’s a pro bowl safety who’s been in the league for five years (four years as a starter). He’s more of a run support safety, but he sure won’t be left out to dry like C.C. Brown. I only like the Sharper idea if they don’t think Phillips is ready, but they seem to think he is.

what i think people are trying to say is “you can’t NOT communicate”

so signing a veteran will up the game play of the younger guys through osmosis as much as anything. you learn by observation as much as by instruction.

little tips and tricks passed down the vine go a long way sometimes.

I posted this on an older thread…not sure if anyone got to read it but I totally agree.

Giants are Losers in free agency:

to a point, the giants over paid simply because the man is the highest paid safety now. HOWEVER, they obviously did their homework and figured out that they wanted Rolle for his many talents and diversity. they like his character. production. tangibles and intangibles.

we simply have to trust that they did not rush to the trigger on this one, they got the man they wanted and sensed that others were in the bidding for him.

they have money to spend after the most miserable defense and secondary went out and shit the bed to an 8-8 season.

guess what, the cost of acting is nothing compared to the cost of doing nothing and having another miserable defense next year.

      thats how i see, anyways

Surprise this wasnt posted yet, but….

Little caution flag goes up when you hear the word disease associated with an nfl prospect. But it is the same disease that David Gerrald has, think it just makes you feel sick.

Wonder how this is going to affect his draft status, and see if Giants go different route

i know someone that has it, and from the little experience i have I think it can be worked out.

      • Russo757 says:

it all depends. My buddy has it and has had MULTIPLE major surgeries. He is ok now but still has weeks where he cant do much. On his healthy weeks though he is a mega athlete. He also had surgery at the same place the pope went when he got shot. Might be something to consider on a draft pick…them not being able to perfrom on some weeks. Im sure Reese and Co will meet with his docs/specialists do discuss the severity of the condition before making a draft decission. in other news Eric BErrty isnt expected to get scooped up till 8th….I say take the leap…
